Insomnia Drug: Can It Alleviate or Worsen Insomnia?

There have been a lot of existing arguments and debates today about insomnia drug.  In previous years, insomnia drug has been known to effectively treat sleeping problems.  However, after numerous researchers and studies have been conducted, there have been findings that insomnia drug can or may worsen the sleeping problem of certain individuals.

Who Are Prone To Insomnia Complications?

Although there is still an acceptable number of people who respond quite well to insomnia drug, more and more people are diagnosed to be not so responsive to insomnia prescription.  The explanation of this issue is because there are ingredients in insomnia drug that can trigger anxiety and depression.  It is known that depression and anxiety are causes of insomnia, but further studies have also proven that insomnia and drugs targeted to treat it may also trigger depression and anxiety.

People who are undergoing major life stress, major life changes or transitions (having a family member die, going through divorce, etc) are the ones who are more prone to develop sleeping problems.  These are also the people who are a bit difficult to give insomnia drug to because their anxiety or depression may get worse.

Doctors are becoming more careful in prescribing insomnia drug because they do not want to have patients suffering a deeper level of insomnia, anxiety, and depression.  People with mood disorders (whether in the past or present) should also be

assessed by a doctor first before they can be given insomnia drug.

Great care must be given in giving people insomnia medication because one wrong move can greatly affect not only the sleeping patter but also the over-all behaviour and disposition of an individual.  As much as possible, people who have trouble sleeping must be completely honest with their doctors so that the doctor will have a concrete idea or knowledge on what kind of drug he or she should prescribe.

Not Just A Simple Prescription

Dealing with insomnia drug is not as simple as it may seem to be.  It takes honesty of a patient and adequate knowledge and skill of a doctor.  Insomnia drug may prove to be really helpful and effective in treating and curing sleeping problems; however, health professionals must make sure that they truly know the background of the patient before they prescribe drugs for treating insomnia.

Remember, some insomnia drug may do more harm than good, especially when patients who will take it are those who have underlying anxiety, depression and other mood disorders.  Doctors must follow specific guidelines in prescribing certain sleep-inducing drugs so that the insomnia treatment will be smooth sailing.  As much as possible, doctors should avoid exposing their patients to further complications; having trouble sleeping is already a difficult situation to be in and doctors must do their best not to trigger more behavioural and mood-related complications.
